If you are getting poor readings, try a fresh, full power battery. This unit works great and does what it is supposed to, without false or erratic readings. Performance can become erratic with all these devices if the battery is not up to spec.
If it says there's a stud in the wall, I can be sure it's there. It's easy to use, accurate, and makes home improvement just that much easier. This stud-finder came highly recommended from a friend that's a contractor, and I've had nothing but good experiences with it. I've never had a problem with glitches or any of the other quirks the other reviewers point out.
After 2 housrs of trying I gave up trying to find studs through 5/8" drywall. The i500 claims to be able to find wiring, plumbing and of course studs. Avoid this product.
I highly recommend it. The ability to deep scan and detect electrical lines is also very useful. This is a must-buy for those who like to hang things on their walls. The ability to mark both the middle and the edge of the stud is priceless. This is an amazing improvement over my old, simple Zircon stud finder of a few years ago.
Too late to return, what a waste. Turns out our last leg stud scanner is still out better the this Zircon one. I brought one at Target clearance for $12. It meant to replace our wood stud scanner, which is in his last leg. This Multiscanner only displays "restart in another location" and nothing else.
